Star Wars The Force Unleashed is planned like revolutionary franchise. Star Wars universe was never underrastimated by fans and one more game similar to Jedi Academy will be only a plus. Graphic and Physics engine was amazing from the first announcement. When it came out it was great. Gameplay was interesting and challenging, there were RPG elements in the game which makes it only interesting for players. Campaign was around 15 hours long what was really big plus in the world, what is now, when main campaign vary from 5 to 10 hours max. But with release of PC version, all fell downhill. Optimization was awfull, game was in deep problems. Texture corrupting and everything bad what can happen. Beside that, game was still fun to play but only for those who had really beast of the PC. For others, even with high end PCs was pretty much impossible to enjoy the game. So let’s start from the very begining of the game. Story begins on the planet Kamino where Darth Vader is giving a lecture to his old new apprentice, Starkiller. Oh yes, you read it right, Starkiller is alive! But how when he sacrifice himself for the Rebellion in the first part of the game. Let’s say it this way, you’re clone! Oh yes, it’s maybe demotivating but you’re playing like Starkiller, the Darth Vader apprentice the Clone. Oh I wonders, how many surnames you will get till the end of the franchise. As it always goes, with amnesion or cloning or something like that, you loose every ability that you’ve known till then and every Force power, and you must learn it all over again. That’s the spirit! Start from the begining with same character but no powers. Practicaly in every sequel we have this kind of problem, but we got used to it anyway. .After couple of minutes of gameplay, you will already be into the main story. There’s nothing confusing, Darth Vader will point out what he have to, and you’ll start slashing, decapitating and killing enemies with your lightsabers. The very first thing that you will notice in the first couple of minutes is gorgeous graphic! It’s really breathtaking. When you go outside on the first level, rain effect is absolutely amazing. Reflection is just the way it need to be and all other effects are just the way it should be. Art Design is pretty awesome, like the first part had but it’s not maybe that awesome, no it definetely is not. But art designers are not the ones to blame for it. This game just lacks of variety. There is only couple of environments regarding to almost a dozen type of environments in the first game. We really misses fungal jungle of Felucia, beautiful architecture of Coruscant and Raxus Prime. It’s kind of the biggest flaw of the game. You can finish this game in less than six hours of constant playing with no pausing in between levels. Second bad thing about the game is simpicity. They took out everything good from the game. Now it’s almost pure third person perspective hack and slash game with maybe a little rpg elements, if collecting xp and simple 3 levels force upgrading can be called RPG elements. Problems about variety don’t stop only for environments. There too little enemy models, and enemy types in general. It looks like they cut off more that a half of contents from the first game. It is really step backward. Sequel should give more contents and more fun, but with this franchise apparently it is not the case. Gameplay wise, it pretty much stays the same, like in previous game. It is still smashing button style of playing but only more shallow than first game from obvious reasons mentioned before in the text. First couple of hours are really fun, and game is rather enjoyable than boring. But as much as you play, it starts to get monotonous and after couple of hours more, you just want to finish the game as soon as possible. Lets talk about Force Powers. Couple of them from the first game are still here, Force Grip, Force Lighting, Throwing Lightsabers for example. But there are couple of new ones and kind of interesting ones. With Mind Trick you can make your enemies fight by your side or make them commit suicide. Force Sense is giving you waypoint to the next objective, so you can never lost track in levels, because they are pretty much linear, all of them. The best thing about whole Force thing is that you can combine it with lightsaber attack and for result you get powerful finishing move. That’s really good thing and also looks really impressive combinig for example your final move with lighting. There’s no soldier that can survive that. You can upgrade your force powers with experience you get killing your enemies. There are 3 levels of every Force Power and of course evey next level is more expensive than one before but of course it’s stronger. Through the levels you will find lightsaber’s crystals. Some of them are hidden behind objects and some are just in front of you. With changing of crystals, you get different benefits of your Lightsaber. You health can regenerate faster or you can heal yourself with every hit at your enemy. Force can replanish faster or you can steal it from your enemy, as health with every hit. In a moments, this game is great fun, but mostly it’s boring. What we can tell in the end of this review. The game is definetnly fun, must play for every Star Wars fan, but for others, simply they find it boring from time to time. As we said, this game is big step backward for this franchise. We jsut can hope that they will fix everything in third installment of this franchise that should come out some time in future. Till then, we can maybe replay first game after finishing this one.
